Lloyd George Museum reopens following investment

What is the background?

The museum is dedicated to the life of former UK Prime Minister David Lloyd George on the site of his childhood home in Llanystumdwy.
Over the years, new exhibits and display cabinets had been added, but many cabinets from the original 1960s Museum remained.

What was the support?

An experienced 3D design firm was commissioned to redevelop the space by modernising the displays and integrating the artifacts with the story. The company carefully considered the architectural features of the building, and the exhibitions were modernized. New storyboards have been added to the walls, screens to display historical video clips have been installed, and bespoke display cabinets were built.

What difference has this made?

The museum has been transformed to give visitors a better understanding of Lloyd George and the context of his lifetime. Key artifacts are displayed as part of four themes that guide the public through history.

The scheme has breathed new life into the museum which will be attractive to locals and visitors alike.

It has been both a pleasure and a responsibility to redevelop the Museum’s displays. Over the years, new displays and display cabinets had been added, but many cases from the original 1960s Museum remained. With this investment, we are able to present historical facts alongside supporting artifacts in a thoughtful manner. This marks only the beginning of our ongoing effort to narrate the life and times of David Lloyd George and the legacies he left behind.

I’m delighted that the Lloyd George Museum has reopened its doors ready for the summer season. Lloyd George remains a significant and controversial figure in Welsh, British and World history and it all started at the Highgate cottage.  The Museum continues to attract visitors from near and far, and we now offer a contemporary experience with engaging graphics and immersive audiovisual activities, that encourage reflection on Lloyd George’s significant decisions and their lasting legacies.
