Celebrating Success: Shared Prosperity Fund Making a Real Difference Across North Wales

From breaking down barriers to employment to upgrading vital community spaces, the impact of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) in North Wales is now clear — and the numbers speak for themselves.

Between 2022 and 2025, the region received over £123 million in UKSPF investment, enabling 169 projects to deliver locally tailored schemes across three key priorities:

  • Communities and Place
  • Supporting Local Business
  • People and Skills

Thanks to a locally led approach, with funding decisions made by the six North Wales local authorities, the programme has already:

  • Supported over 15,000 people
  • Helped 4,135 businesses
  • Backed more than 1,830 community groups.

Delivering Impact at Scale

The programme’s achievements include:

  • 500+ community facilities built or improved
  • 686 new jobs created and close to 1,000 safeguarded
  • 38,750+ volunteering opportunities supported
  • 10,263 events and activities delivered
  • 7,600+ individuals gaining or working towards qualifications
  • 5,300 people accessing employability support
  • 456 tonnes of CO₂ emissions reduced by supported businesses

These figures were unveiled at a regional celebration event held at Conwy Business Centre, where a new publication was launched showcasing inspiring stories from across Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, the Isle of Anglesey, and Wrexham.

Cllr Charlie McCoubrey, Vice Chair of the North Wales Corporate Joint Committee, said:

“The information to hand already paints a promising picture of meaningful success and change across North Wales. We are already witnessing the positive effects of

improved local community assets and infrastructure, growth and efficiency among businesses, and progress in supporting people into employment.

The Shared Prosperity Fund in North Wales – thanks to the flexible approach at the heart of the SPF – shows how, by empowering local areas, regional and national priorities can be efficiently and effectively addressed.”

Jo Stevens MP, Secretary of State for Wales, added:

“It’s fantastic to hear about the successful projects across North Wales made possible by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Our top priority is economic growth – and this fund is helping people gain skills, secure good jobs, and make North Wales a great place to live, work and do business.”
