The People & Skills Key Fund in Wrexham has delivered transformative outcomes for individuals and communities across the county borough. With a focus on building pride in place and increasing life chances, the fund has enabled grassroots organisations to lead inclusive, locally driven initiatives that tackle barriers to employment and promote lifelong learning. Wrexham’s Key Fund focused on equipping individuals—particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds—with the skills and confidence to enter the workforce or improve their job prospects.
Outcomes & Impact

Two stand out case studies from the project are:
AgriCation CIC- NatureConnect
Agri-cation CIC engaged unemployed individuals aged 16+ from low-income communities in agricultural and nature-based activities. The programme supported those at risk of becoming NEET by offering:
- Upskilling workshops and mentorship
- Work placements through collaboration with local businesses
- Long-term sustainability through partnership with DWP
“We’ve had a big impact on socially excluded people… building up their confidence and skills so they can start thinking about applying for work.”
— Agri-cation CIC
Froncysyllte Community Centre- Mural Restoration
The fund supported the restoration of a decade-old mural on the community centre, engaging:
- Local schools and home education groups
- Over 50s club members and residents
- The original artist and professional creatives
The unveiling event drew over 100 attendees in a village of just 600, showcasing deep community pride and intergenerational collaboration.
The Wrexham People & Skills Key Fund has not only supported individuals into employment but also strengthened community organisations, fostered collaboration, and enhanced local pride. It stands as a powerful example of how targeted investment in people and place can unlock potential and build a more inclusive future.
