Flintshire County Council’s Strength in Numbers project, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, helps residents improve numeracy skills in practical, engaging ways. Working with partners such as Xplore!, Groundwork North Wales, Warm Wales, the initiative delivers 22 programmes that embed maths into everyday activities like cooking, gardening, and woodwork.

Key Highlights:

  • Over 170 parents across 10 schools joined the parent programme, boosting confidence and supporting children’s learning.
  • The Grub Hub sessions combined cooking with budgeting and recipe adjustments, improving both maths skills and healthy eating habits.
  • Participants can gain a Level 2 Functional Maths qualification, enhancing employability.
  • Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with learners praising the friendly, low-pressure approach.
